Visa
Foreign nationals, who hold ordinary passports or other legal travel documents
and who intend to stay in the Republic of China for less than six months for
the purpose of transit, tourism, visiting relatives, attending a training
course, receiving medical treatment or engaging in business or other
permissible activities should apply for visitor visa. For tourism information

Exceptions apply to the citizens from a few countries. Special visa exemptions
agreement has been made between Taiwan and the following countries.

Currency & Credit Card
The unit of Taiwan currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NT). Coin denominations
are $1, $5, $10, and $50. Banknotes are $100, $500, $1,000, and $2,000. Foreign
banknotes and traveler’s checks can be exchanged at foreign exchange banks and
other authorized money changers. Credit cards such as Diners Club, Visa,
American Express and MasterCard are widely accepted at major hotels, shops, and
restaurants in the larger cities.

Electricity
In Taiwan, 110 volt outlets are most common. 220 volt outlets are available
only in the special grade hotels. Please check the power supply before using
equipment.
Tipping
Tipping is not a traditional Taiwanese custom. A 10% service charge is added to
your bill at all tourist hotels and so tipping is not expected. It is not
necessary to tip a taxi driver unless he assists you with luggage or provides
an extra service.
