Hualien lies in the east of Taiwan and is a place full of natural beauty. It is
a land of majestic mountains and beautiful coastline. The whole area is a place
where the interaction of mountains, rivers, and oceans has formed a large
variety of peculiar geological features. All of which are naturally created and
amazing to see.
Hualien is also home to six of Taiwan's main aboriginal tribes, the Ami, the
Atayal, the Bunun, the Peinan, the Rukai, and the Puyuma. The cultures of these
indigenous inhabitants are the most important and most representative
resources. These people of Mother Earth and the later migrants to this land
have followed the wisdom of living harmoniously with nature and have enriched
the cultures here.
In the north is the world-famous Taroko National Park. Taroko National Park
faces the Pacific Ocean on the east and covers an area of more than 92000
hectares in the northern section of the Central Mountain Range. In the park
there are many high mountains and steep gorges, with many peaks towering above
3,000 meters in height, and with many natural watersheds. The spectacular
Taroko Gorge and the scenic beauty of the Liwu River can be viewed conveniently
from the Central Cross-Island Highway. The many waterfalls, diverse forms of
plant and animal life, and the indigenous Taroko people, together create the
rich texture of this unique natural ecosystem.
In the central part is the long narrow plain situated between the mountains of
the Central Mountain Range and the coastal mountains of the east coast, the
East Rift Valley. It is a land of mountains, valleys, hot springs, and fertile
plains with paddy fields, day lilies, pomelos, tea plantations, sweet sops,
etc., the so-called the "Land of Oozing Milk and Honey." With its beautiful
scenery and abundant natural and cultural resources, it serves as an ideal
travel destination.
In the east of Hualien is the 300 kilometer long coastline along the Pacific
Ocean. It belongs to the East Coast National Scenic Area which is abundant with
marine creatures and various geological formations.
The beauty of Hualien can only be really appreciated by paying a visit.
